The gift of finding “your people”, or a recruiter’s superpower

Recruiters are people with a special gift. How else can you explain the ability to spot that one candidate among hundreds of resumes – the one who later becomes a perfect fit for the team?

At INB.bio, our recruiter Anastasia has this superpower. Where others see only dry facts and standard phrases, she notices character, energy, and that very spark that makes a person unique.

We asked Anastasia how she knows when she’s talking to “the right candidate,” even before the interview is over.

“The real sign is when, during the conversation, a person shows genuine interest in the team and the business, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and shows readiness to learn and grow. In those moments you immediately feel: this is someone who really wants to work with us. And it’s even better when the candidate’s values align with ours – that’s when the conversation feels easy, warm, and natural.”

That’s why every interview at INB.bio is not a formality, but a chance to truly get to know the person and understand whether they’ll become part of our story.

An interview is not an exam – it’s a chance to find “your people”

Everyone approaches interviews differently: some get nervous as if it were a school exam, while others think, “Whatever happens, happens.” But, according to Anastasia, there’s one common mistake people rarely talk about:

“Many forget that an interview is a two-way process. Candidates either focus too much on saying everything ‘the right way,’ or they don’t ask any questions at all. That creates the impression they’re not really interested in working with us. In reality, the candidate might just be nervous or not realize that the interview is also their chance to learn more about the team and the company.”

So it’s worth remembering: an interview is not an interrogation, but a conversation. And the best outcome is when both sides leave thinking: “Yes, I’d love to work with this person.”

Legendary moments you can’t forget

You might think recruiting is all about seriousness. But like in any job involving people, funny moments happen too.

There’s a legendary story in INB.bio’s HR team about “Finance and mushrooms”:

“Imagine this: an interview for a CFO position, and the candidate is cleaning mushrooms right in the middle of the conversation. And when she was given a test task, she replied: ‘Is this urgent? Because the work isn’t going anywhere, but the mushrooms are here and now.’ That’s unforgettable,” Anastasia laughs.

And of course, everyone’s favorite part of online interviews – pets.

“When cats or dogs suddenly appear on camera, the atmosphere instantly becomes warmer and more relaxed. It’s a reminder that even in formal processes there’s always room for sincerity and a smile.”

Questions that reveal more than a resume

Candidates often ask about the team, workflows, and growth opportunities. That’s natural – people want to know where they’re going. But recruiters are more interested in concrete examples from past work:

“I usually ask them to share specific situations: how they took responsibility, handled challenges, or built collaboration with colleagues. That shows not only professional skills but also their approach to teamwork.”

Such questions reveal more than hard skills – they show the soft skills that matter just as much.

How to know if someone will become “your person” in the team

For Anastasia, it’s about more than just facts on paper.

“Openness, ease in communication, willingness to support colleagues, and genuine interest in the team. If those qualities are there – plus a bit of humor or even a love for animals – it’s a strong sign that the person will fit in and working together will be comfortable.”

It’s simple: if being around someone feels easy and makes you want to keep the conversation going – that’s already half the success.

Recruiting is part intuition, part patience, and a lot of attention to detail. It’s also about creating an atmosphere where an interview doesn’t feel like an “official interrogation,” but a meaningful conversation after which you want to say: “Yes, I want to work in this company.”

Thanks to Anastasia and her talent, amazing new colleagues join us – people who bring fresh energy, ideas, and stories. People you talk to and realize: “Yes, this is a perfect match.”

Today we want to say: thank you for finding the best people for us – those who make the team bigger, stronger, and more exciting.

Happy Recruiter’s Day!
